PhD Degree Requirements

Check List

 

 

 

I. Pre-Candidacy Requirements  (Years 1-3)

 

  *Students must be registered for coursework or dissertation in every semester while they are in the doctoral program.

   *Registration must be concurrent (exception is Leave of Absence).

   *All students must maintain FULL-TIME (3 CU's minimum per term) student status in each semester with the exception of the final term of

     the final term of coursework.  The Doctoral Office must be notified in this situation so that the student's registration can be updated in the

     Student Registration System.

 

                1.  20 CU's  PhD Level Coursework completed _______

 

              * A maximum of 8 CU's may be transferred from other graduate work.

                   * No Undergraduate courses may be counted toward the PhD coursework requirement.

           

                 2.  Qualifications Exam Date Passed:________________

                 3.  Preliminary Exam Date Passed: ___________Form 150

 

                 4.   Department Requirements (optional)

 

 

II.  Candidacy Requirements (Years 3-5)

 

                1.  Dissertational Proposal and Defense

Announcement of Proposal Defense must be posted in the Dept and WhartonDoctoral Office two weeks prior to the date of the defense.

                2.  Preparation of Dissertation  (Formatting) Dissertation Manual

 

 

                3.  Final  Oral Defense of Dissertation

 Announcement of Final Oral Defense must be posted in your Department and the Wharton Doctoral Office two weeks prior to the defense date.

 

                     Date Final Defense is Passed____________   Final ORAL Defense Form  

 

                     

                     Date Dissertation is Accepted by Committee__________ Form 152 (Acceptance of Dissertation Form) 

 

IMPORTANT!  Final Oral Defense Form and Form 152 Acceptance of Dissertation Form must be submitted to the committee for their signatures on the day of the Oral Defense    

 

                4.  Deposit of Dissertation

 

                     Dissertation Deposit Appointment Date: _____________   Form 153 (Certification of Dissertation)

 

 

Required Signatures

Signature of all committee members required on the Dissertation Proposal Form; Final Defense Form and University Form 152.

Signature of Graduate Group Chair (Wharton Vice Dean of Doctoral Programs) required on University Form 152, Form 153 and Dissertation Title Page

                                 

 ALL REQUIRED FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE WHARTON DOCTORAL OFFICE BEFORE  THE DISSERTATION DEPOSIT.
